Maria is a visual artist with a focus on textiles in dialogue with space and bodies, a relationship where she finds poetic similarities. Her work revolves around printmaking, dyeing and weaving, and tends to be an in-print of colour in a surface layered over another. Born 1997, Lisbon. After attending Camberwell College and receiving a BA at Chelsea College of Arts in London, Maria has participated in shows and residencies in and out her home-city. She was selected in 2018 for a residence in Kyoto Institute of Technology, in 2020 in Pforzheim, at EMMA and in 2022 invited to be a resident in Cité international des Arts in Paris. Maria also designed prototypes for Nike in Portland. Through her research on color and transparencies, her work questions architecture, ideas around physical-politics and mental spaces.
