SILHOUETTES
From the lens of a perfumer, Silhouettes explores the olfactive nature of an artist's work—whether painting, sculpture, photo, film, music, or performance. Here perfumers, in a series of interviews, essays, art reviews, and artist profiles, translate the world of art into scent.

THE FILM
Released in 1988, "Looking for Langston" is Isaac Julien's groundbreaking exploration of the private world of Langston Hughes between 1902 to 1967 and his fellow Black artists from the Harlem Renaissance. This fragrance was released in concert with the film's 30th-anniversary exhibition at Tate Britain, where Julien's black and white photographs reimagined the cultural and sexual politics of the Harlem Renaissance period.
